Temporomandibular Joint Disorder
TMJ is an abbreviation for Temporomandibular Joint. This is the jaw joint that is composed of a left and right side. This joint joins the mandible to the skull. Since the left and right side are part of the mandible (jaw), they are considered one joint. Both sides move whenever the jaw moves up, down, or sideways when a person chews or speaks or yawns, etc.
