Mark Z. Yamamoto, D.D.S., M.A.G.D. has been successfully treating TMJ patients since the early 1980’s. In 1988 he wrote a short article for the Orange County Dental Society magazine which explains his approach to diagnosis and treatment of TMJ.
This year, 2012, he has written two articles about anterior open bite, thumb sucking, and tongue thrusting in relation to TMJ pain. He is especially interested in cases where splints (orthotics) have failed. Some recent cases with arthritis of the TMJ have been treated successfully.
Every new TMJ patient gets an individual computer presentation that explains the diagnosis and treatment plan for his or her case. Dr. Yamamoto also does general dentistry because many TMJ patients need restorative dentistry as part of their TMJ treatment.
TMJ problems can have many causative factors. Therefore, a TMJ Dentist could be a general dentist, an orthodontist, a prosthodontist, or an oral surgeon. Each of these dentists perform different treatments that help patients with TMJ. It is the DIAGNOSIS that is important, because if the cause of the TMJ problem can be diagnosed, the appropriate dentist can be chosen for treatment.
